• What is Fkrdrill?
  • Fkrdrill is a hot drilling process that uses friction heat to produce bushings in metal tubes and flat tubes.
  • The combination of rotational speed and applied downward force causes friction.
  • This friction heats the material and softens it sufficiently to form holes and displaces the material to form inserts.
  •  The length of the bushing is approximately 3 times the thickness of the original material.
  •  With Fkrdrill, you can choose between two surface finishes: the standard is to have a collar/ring at the top.
  • The collar can also be removed in the same operation to obtain a flat surface.
  • Temperatures can reach 1600 °F for the tool and 1300 °F for the work piece.
  • There is absolutely no cutting involved during the creation of the hole.
  • The Thermal Drilling System can be used in most ferrous and non-ferrous metals including mild steel, stainless steel, copper, brass and aluminium, with material thickness ranging from 1.0mm. up to 12.0mm. (0.040" - 0.500") depending on the diameter of the hole.
  • No special equipment is required. Applicable to standard drilling machine, milling machine or CNC machining center. It is required that the machine tool has the necessary spindle speed, motor power and axial force to push the tool through the material. For example, for M8, this is 2500 RPM and 1.5kW (2.0hp) motor power, for 1/2NPT, this is 1200 RPM and 3kW (4.0hp) motor power.
  • When using Fkrdrill, you only need one tool holder, one collet, Fkrdrill tool, formtap tool and lubricant.
  • Our tool holder is equipped with a special radiator to dissipate excess heat generated through repeated drilling. The Formdrill tool is clamped in the collet to prevent slipping.
  • Lubrication is recommended to reduce material build-up on the tool and thus extend tool life. Lubricants are available in paste and liquid forms. The lubrication unit can be used for CNC machine tools.
  •  Hot drilling is ideal for automation because it is a chip free process that can produce holes and has a long tool life.
  • Self tapping screws can be used to eliminate tapping operations.
  • Formed bushings are also used as through holes for welding, brazing, or brazing connections, or as bearing surfaces in U-joints.
